Some of my fav characters made for “Life, an Incurable Disease” , a game ideated and designed by Stratos Tzanavaris, and funded by a starting grant from Stimulerings fonds. The title is a beautiful quote from a book called Death and Bereavement Across Cultures.
The portraits were meant to be expressive and sort of idiosyncratic, capturing the absurd fragility and wtfness of the human experience.
They are imagined as candid glimpses into the lives of individuals across a spectrum of ages, identities, genders, cultures, social standings, moods, and sexual orientations, as though in a fleeting moment of their daily lives.
A touching consequence was the emergence of complex narratives that naturally arose from interweaving these diverse group into familial bonds— such as siblings, spouses, friends, and extended family—enriching the narrative behind the gameplay experience.
A working prototype was exhibited in Eindhoven for the Dutch Design Week last October thanks to Rose Academy Official.
